What You Need to Know About Disastrous Events in Your Buildings and How They Should be Handled
Speaker(s)
Greg Robson

Wednesday, January 31st, 2018 12:00 AM ET

As a building owner and manager, how can you prepare your property for unexpected events such as floods and fires? Taking a mitigation approach offers many advantages, e.g. helps close claims faster, reduces insurance costs, assists in tenant retention. The presentation provides insights on preparations you can make and steps taken when a water loss occurs, e.g. locate the source of the water, identify the type of water loss, determine if drying can take place, if tear out needs to happen, make sure it is done in accordance with the Ministry of Labour. If the site does not have a designated substance survey, why does an asbestos testing need to be done to confirm or deny presence? When a catastrophic event is handled properly, costs go down and job cycle time is reduced. Handled improperly, costs go up, loss of tenants and rent occurs, and insurance premiums also rise. This presentation will educate property managers about how losses should be handled.
